Mono Lake, California, USA

Mono Lake is near the Nevada border and on the far side of Yosemite Park, and can be reached from the west via Route # 120 Tioga Road to Route #395 north.  From Reno, Nevada use Route # 395 south into California.  The lake has an interesting history and went partly dry for years, but the salts that run off from the mountain rains have collected, concentrated, and made the lake 'dead' to most plant and animal life.  The lower water levels allowed the winds to blow the semi-poisonous dust to Los Angles and other parts of Southern California, and thus the state had to refill Mono Lake to prevent this public health problem.
