Bus Travel in the USA - Page # 1

Travel by Bus

Traveling by bus is one of the more popular methods of transportation in the United States of America, and it is growing every day due to the large amount of foreign and Senior Citizen  tourist that are visiting our National and State Parks, tourist attractions, seashore and mountain resorts, casinos, and major playground cities like New York and Las Vegas.

The Decision to travel by Bus

When traveling in the USA or another country you have to decide the means of travel that is best for you.  What is best for you may be the cost, the convenience, or the locations being traveled to or from.  You have to consider the cost of traveling by airplane, train, car, RV, etc., with the associated costs of fuel, surcharges, food, housing, insurances, etc.

Many times, especially when traveling long distances, it makes more sense to “take the bus, and leave the traveling to Us” as the old commercial use to say.  If you are a Senior Citizen  or a Student and you do not have to be limited to a specific time or location  schedule, then taking the bus may be very advantageous as you may save  hundreds of dollars in transportation cost.

You also have to consider the wear and tear on yourself and you family if driving for long distances for days in an effort to arrive at your final destination.  It may be better to take the bus to a location near the final destination and then rent a car or van or whatever for the actual adventure of sightseeing.

There are though limitations in that you are restricted as to items you can take on the trip, and you are at the mercy of the transportation company, which can result in missed schedules  , reservations, etc.

Commercial Bus Transport

It is unfortunate that the only remaining full-service bus line in America is Greyhound.  There are many Charter and short-distance locals, and tons of sightseeing and touring lines, but if you want to travel around the country or city to city, then Greyhound is usually your only option.

Charter and Sightseeing lines

There are many and most will or do cater to clubs, groups, organizations and individuals that are interested in going to a specific destination.  The bus will be more personalized than a commercial carrier, and will usually stay with the touring group for its entire round-trip journey.  A good tour guide  will see to it that the driver  for his or her good service, so know that one to two dollars of your fair went for this purpose.

Seating

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance purchase tickets do not guarantee a seat.  When getting off at an intermediate station, mark your seat with some item or ......
