How to become a Professional Tour / Travel Guide

Spearfish Canyon S.D. - One of the side trips that most people miss when visiting Mount Rushmore.

The travel guide manuals you see in most stores include lots of 'commercial' content since each is written and paid for by commercial interest.  The Chamber of Commerce, many Tourist Visitor's Bureaus, hot spots, restaurants, motels, hotels, car rentals, and such pay to have their advertising mentioned, and many write the articles that you receive for a cost or for free.  This is fine, as these people need your business, and are willing to do what it takes to gain your business, but the articles will tend to be biased; and by the time you actually get to the places things may have changed, they may have increased prices, downgraded performance, or gone out of business.

Our Touring guide manuals do NOT rely on the Chamber of Commerce, Tourist Visitor's Bureaus, hot spots, restaurants, motels, hotels, or car rentals, or other commercial entities.

We do include historic buildings, landscapes, museums, and those places that are of interest and value to our readership.  You need motels, restaurants, car rentals, etc., and you will have to locate these in the area of travel, but you also need to know where to travel and what to see.  The picture on this page is of a waterfall in South Dakota up a canyon named Spearfish Canyon, it is off the beaten path and northwest of Mt. Rushmore.  The canyon contains some of the world's most beautiful landscape, yet I would venture to guess that less than 1% of the visitors to Mt. Rushmore have ever seen it, and that is a shame.  This is what our Touring Guide Manuals are about, showing you the places to VISIT, not the places to eat or stay.

We are privately owned, and we owe allegiance to no corporation, state, or locality, therefore we can and do provide honest assessments of  the places to visit or to take your clients.  We do not normally comment on the value of the place or site as we know everyone has his or her idea of value.  We do not 'map' out a day by day route as we understand that everyone may not want to see or visit all the places we document, but we do include GPS and other route information when possible so you can plan your itinerary.

Have we been to every place we write about, no, but we have been to most and those we missed are part of the reason we started this series of Touring Guide Manuals, we did not do our research and missed out; now we know better and our manuals strive to include all those interesting little side places that most miss. We have been traveling the United States of America for over 40 years and have crisscrossed the country from shore to shore, border to border by plane, train, van, car, and bus. We have traveled to Europe, Asia, down under to Tasmania and Australia, to Mexico, Chili, India, and England and Canada, thus have the experience to understand travel and all of its complexities of dealing with establishments, transportation, governments, people, etc., and we bring this experience to you at an affordable cost in our easy to read and understand Touring Guide Manuals.
