Climate and recommended wearing apparel ?

What clothing do you need to take with you when you travel to a tourist location: formal, informal, shoes, sneakers, etc.?  This is one of the many concerns that a traveler has when planning for a vacation in an unknown location.

For example, if he or she is going to a cave or mine tour, he or she will have to wear clothing that will keep him or her warm in 58 degree temperatures.  If going to the beach in Florida one can plan on a bathing suit and some sort of cover to prevent sunburn and heatstroke. 

But, what does a person wear to visit the south rim of the Grand Canyon or Bryce Canyon, or Yosemite, or Yellowstone, etc.? 

The wearing apparel will depend on the season, the time of day, the local conditions, and the altitude of the attraction.  The higher one goes above sea level the cooler it usually is, and places like the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon are in the higher elevations.  The amount of tree cover can make a difference in the local climate, for instance if you are in Napa, California it can be 95 degrees, but going to Muir Woods a short ride away can put you at 20 to 30 degrees cooler due to the coastal winds and the tree cover from the Redwoods.

As a provider of tours or a touring location, you should publish on your Internet website and in your brochures what a visitor should expect when arriving at your location.  You will not always be accurate, but you live and work in the area and should be knowledgeable of the local conditions, and therefore should be able to broadcast this information to those coming from afar.
