Speak Out - Tourist Interest

In American English

Children and Adults, together?

Why, and if so, are there services for each like foods, rides, tours, playgrounds, sitter service, etc.

Most tourist attractions are somewhat specific in nature and aimed toward a specific group of people. For example, Steamtown in Pennsylvania is aimed toward the male adult that enjoys the sights, sounds, and smell of vintage rail engines and cars, therefore it is not a place that many women appreciate or enjoy. There are also many places like a Doll Museum that will not be of particular interest to the male of the species. Some places are aimed toward history and therefore, not too much of interest to a child or a teenager. Other places are aimed toward the child or teenagers, and therefore present little to no interest to adults and especially older adults.

Thus, a tourist spot or attraction has a few options, first of which is to make it very plain to the potential visitor to whom the attraction is best suited. The second option would be to intermix attractions that so that at least one will be of interest to each of the people groups. Third option is to provide recommendations that will allow the visitors to temporarily separate so that each can visit a local attraction of interest to him or her.

The brochure or website should also give the recommended 'stay' time to that is needed to visit the attraction so that a decision can be made. The Steamtown exhibit was fine for a hour or two, and the women in the group enjoyed the sunny day, the history of the locomotive, and some of the interiors of the old cars, but grew weary of the adventure by the third hour, whereas the men wanted to see everything, which on average takes five to six hours. Fortunately, Steamtown is connected to a shopping mall, most male or female attractions are not, and can become an annoyance to a partner.
