Motels and Hotels - are they ripping you off?

Recently (February 2011) I decided to take a vacation to a west coast state where I could see waterfalls, beautiful valleys, volcanoes, lava fields, fossil digs, lakes, and the third deepest crater lake in the world. I started my trip by sending for the State's Tourist and Chamber of Commerce information packets, and what I received was a pile of full-color, beautifully illustrated booklets that contained recommended day trips throughout the state.

The next step was to plan out each of the 18 days I felt that it would take to complete all the day trips and see everything there was to see that I and a friend would enjoy. Plotting on a map of the state the routes, the driving times, the site visiting times, meal places and time, etc. I came up with seventeen locations that looked prime for an overnight motel or hotel stay.

That is when I proceeded to the next step, contacting via the Internet the various establishments and agencies that help one book accommodations, and I came up with a listing of semi-affordable places that would have run about $1,500 for the stay. A few hours later I decided to start actually booking these places and putting down my credit card for reservation deposits; this was when I now found that the prices went up and average of 8% or more, so now the trip would cost me $1,652. What, ok let's look at this again, and I waited a few days and tried again only to find that the cost has now gone up an additional 10%, thus making the trip's accommodations $1,817.

At this time I decided to look for different places to stay, and in several places I did find lower cost accommodations within 15 to 20 miles from the places I originally wanted to stay at. Going through the process with these new places, I again encountered price increases after the initial contacts, and in one location the one-night price of a room went from $125 to $599.

Needless to say the State's tourist bureau and Chamber of Commerce has wasted its money on all those beautiful color booklets, at least for me, I cancelled the trip and will probably never recommend that state to anyone that asks…..

Los moteles y los Hoteles - es desgarran ellos usted fuera?

Unas pocas horas luego Yo decidí comenzar realmente reservar estos lugares y poniendo abajo mi tarjeta de crédito para depósitos de reserva; estos era cuando Yo ahora encontré que los precios fueron arriba y promedio de 8% o más, tan ahora el viaje me costaría $1,652. Qué, ok veamos en esto nuevamente, y Yo esperé unos pocos días y traté nuevamente único de encontrar que el costo ha ido ahora arriba unos adicional 10%, así haciendo alojamientos del viaje $1,817.

No es preciso decir el Cámara y agencia turística de Estado de Comercio ha derrochado su dinero sobre todos esos folletos hermosos de color, por lo menos para mí, Yo anulé el viaje y probablemente nunca recomendará que afirman a alguien que pida
