Missed connections - who should pay?

The are circumstances where a missed connection is not the fault of the common carrier or the public transportation or tour operator, etc., weather, national emergency, and police, military, or fire interruptions may qualify.

But, if an airline or some other entity causes you to miss an connection and it is their fault due to poor scheduling, poor management, or poor planning for what should have been a known, then the place that caused the missed connections should be held responsible and do all that is possible to correct the problem or make restitution.

Example, an airline provides a schedule that is to be depended upon and many do depend on that schedule to arrive at a point where a connection to a show, cruise, or other airline or means of transportation can be obtained. Amtrak, our National Railroad system has a very good 'to the minute' schedule, but only gets to many cities once per day. If you are on an airline and plan to meet the Amtrak train in a certain city, and that airline is late in delivering you, you stand a good chance of missing the Amtrak train, and thus you now have to find a taxi, a motel, a place to eat, another taxi back to the Amtrak station the next day, etc. This can really mess up a two week vacation where all the motels, events, etc., where contracted for on specific days for the entire trip.

Now, one can say that you should NOT book a vacation weeks or months in advance and therefore, it would not matter if you are a day late getting somewhere, you just eliminate one day or add a day to the scheduled time. What is overlooked is that motels and hotels and events are booked and not only may not be available on the unscheduled dates, but will almost always cost much more that those that are booked months ahead of the trip.

So, can you sue the airline that messed up due to poor planning, or who lost your baggage, or who landed at the wrong airport, etc., no not normally, they have a limited immunity from liability and may help you, but not necessarily help you.

This should be changed, and a clear set of rules should be established that hold those responsible for 'damages' to have to pay for their lack of responsibility.

Las conexiones extrañadas - quien deben pagar?

Si usted está sobre una aerolínea y el plano para encontrar el Amtrak entrena en una ciudad cierta, y esa aerolínea es tarde en entregada usted, usted permanece una oportunidad buena de extrañar el Amtrak de tren, y así usted ahora tiene que encontrar un taxi, un motel, un lugar para comer, otro taxi respalda al Amtrak estaciona el próximo día, etc. Esto puede desordenar realmente arriba unas dos vacaciones de semana donde todos los moteles, los sucesos, el etc., donde contrataron para sobre días específicos para el viaje entero.
