Event Coordination - NOT!
Here is another place that can be improved upon in many areas of the USA. The problem is this, town 'A' stages an event or festival or whatever to bring in tourist, and town 'B' fifty miles distant does the same, on the same date. This practice can split the numbers of tourist visiting into two groups, that may have wanted to see both events, but had to 'chose' one or the other.
The smart move by the local Chamber of Commences would be to 'coordinate' the events of each town along a route so that visitors can 'move' from place to place, see all, and enhance the local economies of each.
Towns catering to tourist also need to realize that not all tourist can go on vacation on the same dates, and therefore, if possible the towns that have very attractive touring events should consider having the events on multiple dates, if possible.
There are events like a garlic festival that can attract tens of thousands of visitors, and due to the growing season or harvesting can only be done in a select period, but there are also many events like reenactments that can be spread over several days, or held one day a week for several months.
