Speak Out - Cost outstripping Incomes?

Seniors and Young Families are being left behind.

The year is 2011 and Senior Citizens and young families are struggling to make ends meet, as wages remain flat or decline, and price skyrocket out of control. There are those that want to eliminate funding for public transportation, including Amtrak the Nation's only coast to coast, border to border passenger rail system. Others want to cut back on Medicare and Social Security, and still others want to cut all social programs that help the seniors and working poor.

The business community and the Chamber of Commerce's of each town, state, and region should take notice of what is happening, especially in the tourist areas of the country. Tourism is fast becoming the number one industry of the United States of America as more and more manufacturing and technology corporations flee to low wage countries that have limited or no worker or safety regulations.

Here is the problem that is starting to face the tourism industry, which includes hotels, motels, car rentals, airline fares, rail fares, park entry fees, sales taxes, gift and book stores, tour guides, restaurants, bike rentals, sporting goods rentals, day touring busses, camera and film industry, postage card industries, and all the people that support these industries like maids, cooks, clerks, agents, drivers, mechanics, contractors, energy suppliers, printers, etc… The problem is that travel in the USA has increased in price to a point where many, if not most seniors and young families can NO LONGER AFFORD to travel.

The cost of gasoline at $3.00 per gallon plus, the cost of vehicle rentals that range from $39.95 to $200 per day, the cost of motels that range from $59 to $599 per day, the cost of entry to amusements and parks that range from $1 to $80 per person per day, and the cost of food that ranges from $20 to $90 per day makes for less travel, less spending, and less business. At a minimum the traveler can expect to pay $140 per day visiting a tourist location, and this can be as much as $990 per day, with the average somewhere around $200 to $300 per day. When one considers that the average senior on Social Security gets $650 to $1,400 per month, or $21 to $46 per day, there is a big disparity.

There are an estimated 45,000,000 seniors in the USA, and this is a huge market for the tourist industry, but it will be shrinking as cost increases and incomes decrease, thus the business community has to bite the bullet and make necessary adjustments, or eventually feel the pain of those that have worked for decades in their approach to the 'Golden' years, only to find that there is NO GOLD, and travel is no longer within their means.

The Baby Boomers planned for their retirements, only to find retirement plans cut in half by shady business concerns, and the estimate is that nearly 50% do not have more than $20,000 in savings at the time of retirement, this too will become a major problem for the touring industry, as these people will be using their savings for survival, and not for the 'fun things, like travel' that they once dreamed of doing in their 'Golden' years…

El año es 2011 y los Ciudadanos Mayores y las familias jovenes pugnan para hacer fines encuentran, como los jornales permanecen planos o declinación, y el precio sube como un cohete fuera de control. Hay esos que quieren eliminar respaldan para el transporte público, incluyendo Amtrak la costa única de Nación para costear, frontera a fronteriza sistema de carril de pasajero. Los otros quieren cortar dorso sobre Medicare y Seguro Social, y todavía otros quieren cortar todos los programas sociales que ayudan el seniors y trabajando pobre.

Aquí es el problema que comienza para encarar la industria de turismo, que incluye hoteles, moteles, alquileres de coches, aerolínea viaja, carril viaja, costos de entrada de parque, ventas grava, el regalo y reserva almacenes, recorrido orienta, restaurantes, los arriendos de bicicleta, jugueteando arriendos de mercaderías, el día que viaja busses, industria de película y cámara, industrias de tarjeta de franqueo, y toda la gente que apoya estas industrias como criadas, cocina, trabaja, agentes, conductores, mecánica, contratistas, suministradors de energía, impresoras, etc… El problema es que el viaje en el EUA ha aumentado en el precio al punto donde muchos, si no la mayoría seniors y las familias jovenes pueden AFRONTAR NO MAS para viajar.
