As a once frequent flyer, actually a frequent commuter between Detroit and Atlanta, I experienced what I believed to be just about every thing that can be, short of a full scale crash.  But like all of life, the longer one lives the more one discovers, and flying is no exception.

Airlines are wonderful for covering long distances in the shortest amount of time, one can fly from New York to Los Angles in as little as 5.5 hours, where driving would take 5.5 days.  The short distances that are under 250 miles are not always best as it takes time to get to the airport, time to park, time to go through security, time to check in, time to board, time to fly, time to debark, time to rent a car or find transportation to one's destination, which can be more than it would have been if you just got in your car and drove or took Amtrak.

Most Americans do not know that it is the taxpayers that pay for the security and the airport buildings and runways, and that many routes are taxpayer subsidized due to being unprofitable, but needed for the few that use the route. 

Now, with all that said, here is the bitch; more than once I have booked on-line and reserved my seats, usually one to three months before the flight, therefore I have a choice of seats throughout the aircraft.  But, when arriving at the boarding counter I have found that my choice seats have been sold to someone else for a higher price, and I and my companion are relegated to some seats in the very rear of the aircraft.  This would not be too bad, except my companion is claustrophobic and I selected the seats that I did so that she would not be uncomfortable during the flight.  This has happened more than once and now my companion will NOT take an aircraft flight, thus the airlines lose hundreds of dollars, and Amtrak gains two new clients.

Second problem with airline flights, is the weather, not only at the departing airport, but also at the arriving airport as many tens of thousands have discovered when stranded for days and missing dozens of reservations due to this.

Then there are the lost baggage problems, the cut backs in food and drinks, and the charging for bags to consider. 

To the future of airline flight in the USA and the world, you are in trouble.  Many airlines have already merged or shut down due to the high fuel cost.  One or two were smart enough to purchase millions of gallons of fuel when the prices were low, and therefore can offer low rates for a limited time, but eventually they too will have to raise prices.  Since there is a limited amount of crude oil available to the USA, the day will be upon us where most airlines will either have to limit flights to the rich, or close down completely, I estimate this to happen in the next twenty to thirty years, thus a real reason for High-speed coast to coast rail systems.

Pero como toda la vida, la uno más larga vive la más uno descubre, y volando es ninguna excepción.

Las distancias cortas que están debajo 250 millas no son siempre mejor como toma el tiempo para conseguir al aeropuerto, el tiempo para estacionar, tiempo para ir mediante la seguridad, tiempo a registrar, tiempo para abordar, tiempo para volar, tiempo a debark, el tiempo para alquilar un automóvil o encontrar transporte al de destino, que puede ser más de habría sido si usted simplemente consiguió en su automóvil y condujo o tomó Amtrak.

Pero, cuando llegando en el mostrador de abordaje Yo he encontrado que mis asientos elección se han vendido a alguien otro para un mayor precio, y Yo y mi compañero se relegan a algunos asientos en la muy retaguardia de la aeronave. Esto no sería demasiado malo, exceptuado mi compañero es claustrofóbico y Yo seleccioné los asientos que Yo hice para que ella no sería incómodo durante el vuelo. Esto ha sucedido más de una vez y ahora mi compañero NO tomará un vuelo de aeronave, así las aerolíneas pierden centenares de dólares, y Amtrak gana dos clientes nuevos.

El segundo problema con vuelos de aerolínea, es el tiempo, no solamente en el aeropuerto partir, pero también en el aeropuerto llegar como muchos diez de millares tienen descubierto cuando trenzaron por días y extrañando docenas de reservas debido a esto.

Entonces hay los problemas perdidos de equipaje, la cortadura respalda en el alimento y bebidas, y los furiosas para talegos para considerar.

Al futuro de vuelo de aerolínea en el EUA y el mundo, usted es en peligro. Muchas aerolíneas han combinado ya o cerrado abajo debido al costo alto de combustible. Uno o dos era sabio suficiente para comprar los millónes de galones de combustible cuando los precios eran bajo, y por lo tanto pueden ofrecer la tarifa bajo por un tiempo limitado, pero eventualmente ellos demasiado tendrán que levantar precios.
