I thought I would bake a cake one night,
It seems like fun at the time.
But it turned out such a terrible sight,
It really was a crime.
I can't understand what happened,
I followed the book to a "T",
Except, when it called for two eggs,
I thought it'd be better with three.
A twelve inch pan? There was none,
So, I used two sixes instead.
I'd seen my mother use them--
When she was baking bread.
And since we were all out of corn starch,
I cleverly fixed that that, too.
I used the starch from mom's laundry room,
But that darn cake still tasted like glue.
Now, if ever again I try baking,
Whether making a cake or just bread,
You can bet I won't use THAT old cookbook,
I'll use my judgment instead.
