Unexpected Company I See

(The Porcupine in a Tree)

Oh me, oh my, what do I see?
A porcupine in the old oak tree.
He's so far up, I fear he'll fall,
but he doesn't seem to worry at all.

He wraps his legs around the limb,
no creature dares to bother him
as he sleeps the day away.

No creature dares to bother him,
but the foolish one will pay,
'cause the porcupine has little Quills
that he'll send your way.

But when nighttime creeps
And all else sleeps
On twigs and bark and leaves he'll feast.

But he's such a sloppy eater,
he should clean up his mess at least
and leave my backyard neater.

He'll eat and run when night is done
He's such a lazy cheater.
So morning finds me, rake in hand
a shovel, a broom, and a garbage can.

Seems the culprit has slipped away
to visit me another day.

Aaaagh!!!
